Group Swap Project!

Saturday, March 31, 2007

Missy Balance, who I have posted about before is hosting a very interesting group swap project that I got in on. I was impressed because the theme is one that I haven't heard of before and I immediately thought about how fun this could be when I saw it. It is a 1st Aid Kit swap and I am very excited about it. I have a few challenging ideas that I will be trying to incorporate into this one. You can read more about the swap details at Missy's site, Crafty Carnival.

I'll have a sneak peek up in the next week sometime. I wonder who my swap partner will end up being? Stay tuned to find out.

Meanwhile, finishing up the final touches for the items I am sending to Rosehips in the UK.

Sneak Peek

Wednesday, March 28, 2007

Here are some sneak peeks at a little project I am doing. It is a swap with Rosehips from the UK and I have completed almost all of what I am sending her way. I want it to be a surprise, though the recipient does know what I am sending. The items will have the best impact if pictured in use, so hope she will be able to take some pics when she receives her package.

Rosehips has a blog you can check out and we organized a swap between the two of us. She is knitting me a little something and also sent me some lovely items that were here when I returned from March Break at my parent's place (more on the goodies I got later!) How happy was I to see a package just for me and just for fun!

Glad to have my camera back in working order after getting it fixed. It seemed like forever and I really had many moments of "I wish I had my camera for this" as we really have been busy folks around here. What did I ever do before I got this handy little piece of technology?

Thursday at the Rink

Friday, March 23, 2007

I just got my camera back from the repair shop today - just in time for our skating outing and Pops snapped this one of my little T-man. I guess he is not so little anymore - you should have seen him go! We have only skated a handful of times and he has really taken to it.

I don't usually post pics of my kiddlets on this blog but this one is a perfect silhouette, so I thought why not?

Thinking of you both on your special day!!!!

EP!C Sustainability 101 Review

Anyone reading this is probably wondering what I have been up to for the past while since posting has been pretty sparse.

Well, there are a few things that have been monopolizing my time and one of them was the fact that I was asked to be a panelist at an eco-consumer expo called EP!C, the Sustainable Living Show. It all went down for me today at noon (though the show is on all weekend!) and I really discovered something about myself in the experience....I am never going to do that again! See the Tum Tum Tree Designs journal for more about the Sustainability 101 panel discussion.

While it is not likely that I will ever have such an opportunity like this one any time soon, I am definitely glad it is over. I don't like being on stage. It was hot and uncomfortable. I get really nervous in front of large crowds and today was no exception. I totally forgot what I had planned to say in the opening statement so I probably looked a little unprepared.

I summed up with a decent statement at the end when we were addressing the issue of paying more for quality goods that are sustainable. That was my saving grace in the whole event, though it's funny how I have pretty much blocked out the whole thing from my mind. I remember there were lots of "umms" in what I was saying and it is so weird how the words echo around the (huge) room and you can hear yourself through the mic. This would take a lot of getting used to for me.

There were some good questions and interaction with the crowd, which was quite packed. Afterward there were more people asking me questions and I did much better in those one to one inquiries I must say. It is infinitely clear that my written communication skills are WAY better than my presentation skills but I can chalk this one up as a learning experience.

The exposure was (hopefully) good for the business as the information got out for the most part. I was also sharing the stage with some very impressive movers and shakers in the green business field. Much thanks to Michael Gordon of MindfulYou.com for setting the whole thing up.

So in the "Note to Self" list the synopsis is as follows;

  • cue-cards - yes
  • "umms" - no

March and it Snows

Friday, March 02, 2007

So it snowed today. March 1st in Vancouver and it actually snowed. Climate change, anyone?
I wish my camera was working, I would have some photographic evidence. Curses!
