Happy Hallowe'en

Wednesday, October 31, 2007

Hope you all had a very scary and happy Hallowe'en. Here are the pumpkins in some slightly better light. Gee whiz, I could use some more practice with the camera.

Check out the Table I Scored!!!

Tuesday, October 30, 2007

I love thrifting! There was no way I could walk out of the thrift store without this beautiful table. It is in great shape for a table of its vintage. It is a mid-century modern piece of Danish or Scandinavian design. It is probably made from rosewood and the craftsmanship is excellent.

And all for only - get this - ten bucks!!! I almost couldn't contain my excitement as I left with this purchase. The store had too much furniture in stock and they just wanted it out so they could make room for other things. It sure made my day. To the right of the arm chair is a magazine rack that I picked up (also very well priced) and it matches somewhat although there is more wear on it. Another very nice piece.

The Guts and the Glory

Monday, October 29, 2007

Pumpkins are messy. Here is a work in progress and then the final product with candles inside. You would think that after all these years I would figure it out. It is a messy job, but someone's got to do it.

I want to get a better shot of them both in action outside but that will have to wait until Hallowe'en night. There are still a few adjustments to make on these two cyclops'.

Just 2 MORE SLEEPS!

Speaking of glory, I am unfortunately going to miss out on the performance that I really wanted to go see. Henry Rollins is taking his show to Vancouver tomorrow but unfortunately it was a little hard for me to wrangle myself a way to go and see the show. Maybe next time, but who knows when that will be. From what I understand it has been a while since he did a tour of this scope. Anywho, hope it goes well.

Buy Hand Made Pledge

Saturday, October 27, 2007

I am working on getting an online shop ready in the form of and ETSY shop. Unfortunately they require a credit card to be able to post listings which is a bit of a problem for me as I do not have one. Investigation continues into other options, but in the meantime, I have taken the Buy HandMade Pledge.

Check it out. There are over 1,900 pledges so far. It's really amazing, all those creative crafters doing some awesome stuff.

Handmade Rocks!

Travellers Village Halloween Haunt

What fun we had today at the Hallowe'en Haunt! There were all kinds of games and crafts to do. The snake man was there with his fab reptiles and this boa was on a girls arm for quite a while. Creepy but cool.

Halloween Haunt

Friday, October 26, 2007

Here are some of the uber-fab decorations at the school Halloween Party. The whole event was very well done adn everyone put a lot of work into it. The games were great adn everyone had fun. There were a LOT of people though which was a bit of an issue. Chasing the kids around through those crowds was challenging but I was lucky that my parents came with me to help out. All in all, it was a good time.

These pumpkins are excellent too. What an assortment.

Buy HandMade - Make a Pledge!

Wednesday, October 24, 2007

Here are some ribbon flowers that I have been spending WAY too much time on. They are quite pretty but I get very into making each one just right and it's almost an obsession at this point.

These ones are all pin-backs but they come on hair clips and hair elastics as well.

The pics aren't that great as I was experimenting with the presentation and got all creative with some little lights that I attached around the display. The close up shot shows them off better but next time I will go without the flashy lights I think.

Apple Fair

Saturday, October 20, 2007

Today the Apple Fair was on at the Orchard Museum in town. It's an annual event and there was lots to see in the building. The museum itself is quite an interesting walk, with all kinds of tidbits on the apple industry and other agricultural facts in general. Unfortunately the building is very dark inside and so good photos were hard to get, but I did manage to catch these too below.

This is a stack of old wooden boxes that are used to transport the harvest, displaying the logos of different suppliers. There were many examples of these and I just love the old-school graphic look of them all stacked together.

This here is a pic of the HUGE model train that shares space in the museum. It is a big draw for the kids as you can imagine. There is even a little itty bitty OGOPOGO in the lake part of it, but my camera wouldn't take a good shot of it as it was right up near the protective glass. (Too much glare) At any rate, we all had fun.

Echoing Emptiness

Tuesday, October 16, 2007

Err, I mean my living room. This is what it looks like at the moment, photos as promised.

This is the beautiful bare window, with the sixties era naugahide bench that I bought at a thrift shop for $40 I think. It is in solid shape and I like the simple lines but it needs an update in the fabric covering. I am measuring it up for a new cover from some of my gorgeous hemp that I have.

The bench fits nicely under the window but I might change its location to the adjacent wall opposite the fireplace, depending on how many pillows I get done for it. Too many will look a bit odd obscuring the window frame.

This is the entryway to the front door right by the living room and as you can see, other than the torchiere, there is not much more to it. My ideas are beginning to form as to what I will be doing but they still have to percolate some. I will reveal that I am keeping my eyes peeled for a natural rug of some sort that will go in there to cover the current wall-to-wall that obviously has to stay for sometime. I am thinking siesal with a fabric edging. More to come...

Doe....A Deer...

A Female Deer....
This dear doe keeps visiting our backyard for a nibble of the leaves on the red tree at the right. She comes by on her rounds at the same time each afternoon and we sure love to catch a glimpse of her. She really is lovely and elegant the way she tiptoes through the tall grasses and bushes.

So, yes, the view from here is pretty good indeed.

I am Greening my Living Room

Thursday, October 11, 2007

This is an ongoing project.
I intend to make my living room a project in green design. It helps that my living room is pretty much a hollow tomb. Really, there is only one piece of furniture (Purged lots in our recent move, plus a bigger house means nothing for a living room!)

There is a sixties era naugahide bench that I have had for years, bought for next to nothing at a thrift shop. I am going to recover it with some of my fabulous hemp and then showcase some of my own pillow designs on it. It's going to be awesome.

With careful planning and sticking to the details, the living room will be an inspired eco-chic room. Watch for more wit pictures coming soon.

I LOVE FALL

Monday, October 08, 2007

So I am finally back after a very loooonng blog break. Honestly I can't say what happened there except I was a bit overwhelmed. With life. Funny how that kind of gets in the way of the best intentions. Lots of crafty stuff went on over the past months but for some reason I just didn't have the energy left at the end of the day to blog it too. I do have lot of pics and I will share when I can.

Fall is my very favourite season so I have been in good mental form for blogging lately. The autumn is best, not only for the fact that it's my birthday season (26 again, I keep saying!) but also it's all the colours that make it the best season for me. I love crisp cool weather, all the harvest veggies and such, the crunch of leaves underfoot. And PUMPKIN PIE!!!Yep, those are some of my favourite things. Sunflowers too. The ones above are over 13 feet in height. We visited the local pumpkin patch in town and it was a blast. Hayrides and everything.

Did I mention pumpkins? They had about 5,500 this season. I was impressed.

My favorite season by far.

Happy Turkey Day!!!

Stuffed Veggies Anyone?...

Monday, October 01, 2007

I have had this idea for a while now and finally got the studio unpacked enough to get some work done in there. A few notes and lots of frustration, 4 hours later I had patterns for 6 stuffed veggies that I will be making from hemp fabric.

This is what they were looking like at the end of the day.

There is a cuke, tomato, beet, parsnip, potato and a small aubergine.

And they fit very nicely into a recycled lettuce container that I had hanging around.
This is the albino version of course. The coloured hemp version will be available soon.
